Three Quotes

"Philosophies of leadership are determined by beliefs about human nature."
This quote is talking about how a leader determines what to do, and how it will influence others. The leaders beliefs are shown in their behaviors, which influences the behavior of others. The leaders beliefs are shown in their behaviors which influence the people round them. The behavior they have really shows the initial beliefs of the leader. The leaders philosophies are understanding to the people which reflects how they perceive him/her. In school students have a free block where we can do whatever we want for 1 1/2 hours. The adults are all around, but they give us a certain responsibility. This would be trust; they trust us that we will not smoke in the bathrooms like students in Essex High School. I used this example to represent this quote because the teachers at CVU are trustworthy of us students and expect that we stay trustworthy to them as well. “We are like chameleons, we take our hue and the color of our moral character, from those who are around us.” This quote by Locke connects because it tells how people do influence others. Locke would agree with this quote because if people are shown to be good by their human nature, it would put a positive affect on how others behave as well.

"The governed have a responsibility for their governance."
My understanding of this quote is the citizens have a responsibility for how they are lead. We have the responsibility to vote for our leader, and tell them what we want to see happen. We should follow and respect them since it was our choice to put them in power. If the citizens do not like how the leader does things then they have the responsibility of speaking up. Just like in school, at the end of the year teachers will give out evaluations. This is the students chance to tell the teachers what they are doing wrong and change for the better. This is what you need to be a good civil country. Locke would agree with this quote because his theory really supports the concept. Locke's view of government is everyone votes and the people should obey them. If the leader does not have all the properties you need to lead then he/she wouldn't be suited to lead. The people have the right to replace a government that better serves their needs. We are the leaders, and we rule ourselves as well.

"Human Nature does not determine our actions,: it inclines us towards certain actions."
This quote is more based on our instincts. Human nature doesn't determine our decisions for us. Humans know right from wrong, but sometimes they will choose the wrong thing to do. In an all good world there can be evil, but in an all evil world there can be good. One example is a little boy in school really wants his friends brand new toy. He really was considering stealing it, but instead he just walked away. The point is the little boy avoided the negative actions he had, but his natural instinct was to steal it. One thing Locke would say is,“The dread of evil is a much more forcible principle of human actions than the prospect of good.” The decisions we make and how we act, determine our behavior. I feel like this quote connects to this also, "People will ignore their misfortunes and their interests when they are in competition with their pleasures." This quote is basically sums up the point. It means that when people are determined to get something they want, they will ignore their human nature. Locke's point of view on this quote would be people only intend to do good. If our human nature is good then people shouldn't do the wrong thing anyway.
